Product Description of Reading in the Content Areas: Project CRISS is a philosophy of planning that is research-based and highly effective in increasing student achievement in reading in the content areas. In our program, CRISS founder Dr. Carol Santa and her colleagues teach educators how to use CRISS in their classrooms. All aspects of CRIS--from the Learning Plan to implementation--are explained in detail, supported with many real classroom examples from urban, suburban, and rural schools. Teachers will come to understand practical methods and strategies that will help their students take responsibility for their own learning and improve their reading skills. Reading is the basis of all other educational subjects. It is critical that all students can read at or above expected standards. Reading in the Content Areas will greatly aid all educators in helping students meet reading standards.

1. Use the instruction video programs to enhance live training and to allow teachers to review materials. The videos are designed for group settings and are broken into segments to allow for several training sessions. Both Elementary and Secondary Editions are available, and each contains examples from urban, suburban, and rural schools.
2. Use the Implementation Guide contained in the Facilitator Pack to introduce key concepts and guide discussions in each group training session.
3. Use the Teacher Implementation Pack to guide self-study, to show real examples of the strategies, and to provide implementation projects and activities that will increase the use of specific tactics in the classroom. The Teacher Implementation Pack provides detailed follow-up for teachers.
