Students respond to clearly set expectations. Rather than keeping those expectations low for students with poor classroom performance, raising them to high expectations brings everyone in the class to higher levels of performance.
While students often enter the classroom at various learning levels, educators should always determine the level of the child when he or she enters the classroom and then work up from there.
Helping all students reach high expectations doesn’t happen overnight. Key to meeting high expectations is teacher planning. As a result, educators are on the same page, knowing what is expected of them and their students. Students depend on consistent expectations from teachers. No matter the distractions of the day, educators have the daily opportunity and obligation to impact all students.
