Dr. Richard P. DuFour is one of the nations most distinguished educators. Dr. DuFour has served as a public educator for over three decades as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. In 1983 he became principal of Adlai E. Stevenson High in Lincolnshire, Illinois. He served in this capacity until 1991 when he became superintendent of the district. During Dr. DuFours time at Stevenson High, the school transformed and became what the United States Department of Education described as "the most recognized and celebrated school in America." The high school is one of three schools in the nation to win the USDE Blue Ribbon award on four occasions, and one of the first comprehensive schools the USDE designated as a New America High School, a model of successful school reform. Led by Dr. DuFour, Stevenson became one of the best schools in America and is repeatedly cited as a model of best practices in education.
Dr. DuFour shares his innovative and powerful leadership strategies through presentations and literature. He consults with school districts, state departments of education, and professional organizations throughout North America. He is the author of 8 books, more than 40 articles, and for almost a decade has written a quarterly column for the Journal of Staff Development.
