Dr. Phillip C. Schlechty passionately believes that the core business of schooling is to create engaging school work for students. As the founder and CEO of the Schlechty Center for Leadership in School Reform, Dr. Schlechty and his staff help educators around the country implement permanent positive change at the district, school, and classroom levels.
Dr. Schlechty has written many books and articles focused on helping schools create internal capacity for change. He has worked as a classroom teacher and an administrator. He served as special assistant to the superintendent in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and was the founding executive director of the Gheens Professional Development Academy. At the University of North Carolina, he spent 16 years on the faculty and served as department chair and associate dean. He has also held faculty appointments at Ohio State University, Ball State University, Vanderbilt, and the University of Louisville.
He received his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University.
