Case Study: Fifth Ward Elementary

Perry DiCarlo, Principal of Fifth Ward Elementary School in St. John the Baptist Parish in Louisiana, felt frustrated that his school was not seeing progress:

The Intervention Program integrates several critical components to drive learning:

In-Depth Needs Analysis and Pre-Assessment

  • Quantitative needs analysis with all teachers.
  • Classroom observation and one-on-one interviews.
  • Creation of a customized plan based on needs analysis.

  • 5 days of onsite training, broken into 4 sessions.
  • Teachers and administrators will learn how to align learning targets, assessment, and instruction for increased student learning.
  • Throughout the training, participants will see and participate in exemplary modeling.

    • Ongoing, Job-Embedded Resources for Effective Classroom Implementation

  • Resources included online courses, DVDs, books, classroom instruction tools and posters, and PD 360.
