Carlene Murphy
Carlene Murphy has nearly five decades of experience in public schools. She uses her expertise to help schools across the nation implement the Whole-Faculty Study Group (WFSG) approach to professional development. Ms. Murphy developed the WFSG in order to make professional development more job-embedded and effective.
Ms. Murphy has served as an elementary teacher, coordinator of programs for the gifted, and director of staff development. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including the American Association of School Administrators’ Award for Outstanding Achievement in Professional Development and the National Staff Development Council’s Contributions to Staff Development Award.
Ms. Murphy has done a great deal of work with the National Staff Development Council, including chairing the annual national conference and serving as president. She is a co-founder of the Georgia Staff Development Council and served as its first president.
Ms. Murphy did her undergraduate work at Georgia Teachers College, now known as Georgia Southern. Her graduate degrees are from the University of Georgia.
